In a press conference held last December 6, 2007, Sanyo has unveiled the secret of the latest model of its Xacti series of camcorders, the Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000 which was released last September 2007. According to Sanyo, the Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000 is the world's smallest and lightest full HD camcorder capable of recording 1920 x 1080i videos.
The Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000 only weighs 268g and has a volume of 272cc. In the press conference, Sanyo revealed that the Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000 achieved its weight thanks to the one chip that handles the image processing function which was usually allotted to several chips. This chip is called The Platinum Σ Engine chip. It is also thanks to Sanyo's proprietary H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC)codec that enables low power consumption and high compression on the Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000.
Instead of having an internal hard disk, the weight and volume of the Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD1000 was also reduced by using a 4GB SD card which can record 45-60 minutes of video.
