3G iPhone gets unveiled at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference

Well, the rumors proved true again, there is a 3G iPhone and it will be available on July 11. So what's the difference between the old iPhone and 3G iphone? Well, aside from its 3G/HSDPA capability (850, 1900, 2100 MHz frequencies), it also has an assisted GPS and a larger 3.5 inch screen. Aside from that, businessmen complaining about the lack of corporate email on the iPhone will be glad to know that the iPhone 3G also supports Microsoft Exchange.

Doesn't seem like much has changed but those who didn't jump into the iPhone bandwagon before because they're waiting for a better version, now is probably the time to buy one.

Cheap iPhone---in the UK

O2 and Carphone has just cut the price of the Apple iPhone by 100 pounds. This is for the 8GB version of the Apple iPhone. T-Mobile has made a price cut of their own over at Germany. Reports say that this is in anticipation for the 3G version of the iPhone. The 169 GBP 8GB Apple iPhone will remain at that price point until June 1.

Hmm, hope AT&T follows suit.

Playstation Emulator for the iPhone

The iPhone just got cooler. A Playstation emulator for the iPhone called psx4iphone has just been released and is at version 0.1.0

I don't own an iPhone and I don't really know how this would work since I thought all of the iPhone's application runs on the Safari browser, however, it seems that there's an installation needed so this won't run on the Safari Browser. Conference Call Widget on the iPhone

Talkster is a simple application for the iPhone that lets you easily make conference calls on your phone. The widget generates a single phone number and distributes it to the list of people you want to talk to via text message. After the initial phone number registration, you can now use this number to call the same group of people anytime. Plus, according to Talkster, when you can use this number to add your friend's phone number anywhere in the world and the price is only for a single local call! Now that's a cool feature.

3G iPhone to be released next year?

3G iPhone? Now that's what I'm talking about! A Bloomberg article recently revealed that Apple will be introducing a faster iPhone next year. Now that's what I'm talking about. So I guess I really won't be buying an iPhone this year.

But then again, if 3G is all that iPhone's adding to the iPhone, then maybe I'll hold off until they release a better version. Specifically one that has GPS and an open platform for developers. I mean, right now, I'll settle for the iPhone being open for developers. An open iPhone would mean better applications rather than having to run it on the Safari Browser.

I don't know, maybe Apple is updating their iPhone in installments, like they'll release the 3G version next year then next year they'll release the open version, then the year after that they'll release one with GPS, etc, etc. Kinda like Nokia's marketing strategy.

Digital Magazines for iPhone and iPod Touch

Texterity, a publisher of digital magazines in the US has announced that it already has 52 digital magazines available for the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

The company introduced the Release 1.0 version which will allow iPhone and iPod Touch users to have easier access to their digital magazines through a single browser window as well as a full search capability, links to websites, table of contents, and a hot link to easily subscribe to the featured magazines.

Some of the publishers included in the Release 1.0 includes Readers Digest, Time Inc., O'Reilly Media, EH Publishing, and a whole lot more.

FutureDial now supports the iPhone

FutureDial, a software company announced that they have added support for the iPhone for the software they provide carriers and wireless retailers worldwide. According to FutureDial, Stores can now transfer their customers' personal contacts,
pictures, music, and video to the iPhone quickly.

FutureDial provides wireless carriers worldwide with software solution that enables them to transfer content such as messages, music, photos and videos from an old phone to a new phone.

I got to play with the iPhone

One of the advantages of having rich relatives is that you get to play with their toys. That was exactly what I did when I visited my uncle in Manhattan a few weeks ago. My uncle isn't really a techie but he's more of the follow the crowd type. He was one of the first to buy an iPhone when it was launched even though the only thing that he thinks mobile phones are good for is for making calls. I'm the techie in the family and when he voluntary surrendered his iPhone to me to play with during the week I was there so that, "I could study the features and teach him how to use it", I happily obliged.

The Design

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not an iPhone fan. In fact, I think I've been bashing the iPhone even before its release in some of my articles. But when I got hold of that sleek, thin phone in my hands, all thoughts of hatred flew out of my head and I was just in awe. The iPhone is hands down, the prettiest phone I've ever seen. It has a brilliant glass screen. Yes, glass! This is the first phone I've encountered that has a glass screen rather than plastic. The iPhone's LCD displays brilliant colors but my uncle's iPhone already has a spatter of fingerprint smudges when handed to me. The phone is all screen save for one button at the bottom for accessing the menus. On the top is a button for controlling calls and also serves as the phone's power button. On the left side of the phone, you can find the volume control and a ringer mute switch and at the bottom of the phone is the speakers and the place where you connect the syncing dock or charger. At the back of the iPhone is the camera and the Apple logo and yes, there's no hatch for the battery. The iPhone feels solid in my hand and the screen is a pleasure to touch. I have a PDA phone which I would never dream of using my fingers on so the iPhone's touch interface took a little time for me to get used to. Whenever I fish the iPhone out of my pocket, I always feel the need to grope the side for a stylus which I always do with my own phone.

Skype for the iPhone

How to have the iPhone feel on your ordinary cell phone

For those of you who didn't get in line for an iPhone but wants to avoid the envy, pcworld.com has an article on how to dress up your cell phone to avoid any iPhone envy. Some of the applications would cost you around $30 or less but you don't have to worry about shelling out $500-$600.

iPhone's Visual Voicemail

iPhone's Visual Voicemail lets you choose which voicemail you will listen to by listing it without the need to hear the voicemail first. If you want to have visual voicemail on your cell phone, callwave, according to the pcworld article, is a free service that sends copies of your voicemail messages to your e-mail. The caller's name and the message length is displayed in the subject line so you can select which voicemail you will listen to. The software creates a contact list on your PC and notifies you of new messages through SMS message on your mobile phone.

GotVoice is a web-based service that grabs your voicemail messages, records them as MP3 and then sends it to your email address. GotVoice will work with any phone be it your mobile phone, home phone and even your work phone. The service is free but expect to see advertisement. They have a premium account which will cost you $10.

iPhone's syncing capability with iTunes and your PC

The PocketTunes 4.0 can let your phone connect to internet radio stations plus lets you download music from popular subscription services like Yahoo Music, Napster To Go, and Rhapsody To Go. The application will cost you $38 and is compatible with Palm Treo phones.

For your Windows Mobile smart phone, you can download the M music player which lets you access songs on your PC and lets you receive Internet Radio broadcasts. The service will set you back $5 per month or $50 per year.

For phones that support Java, for $10 per month, the MobiTV application lets you stream live TV on your phone as well as receive radio broadcasts.

iPhone's 4 to 8 GB memory capacity

The iPhone's memory is restricted to either 4 or 8 GB capacity. Most phones nowadays have an expansion slot that supports memory cards, SD cards, microSD and miniSD. The highest capacity for multimedia cards is at 4GB but according to pcworld, that capacity can double.

iPhone supports Google Maps

Pcworld reports that Google Maps has a mobile version for any cell phones that are capable of connecting to the internet. And if your mobile phone has GPS capabilities, you can one up the iPhone since it can only view static maps, according to pcworld, major carriers offer GPS mapping and traffic updates.

This day in History widget for the iPhone

There's a perfect iPhone application for history buffs who owns this sleek gadget. Software MacKiev has already released This Day in History. This Day in History is a new widget for iPhone's Safari browser that shows significant historical events corresponding with the current day.

Apple iPhone applications

Unbound Medicine announced that they will be releasing medical content for the iPhone. Among the medical products that will be available are Harrison's Manual of Medicine and Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests from McGraw-Hill, 5-Minute Clinical Consult from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Red Book(R) from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Davis's Drug Guide and Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary from F.A. Davis. Users can also access and search through hundreds of medical journals online.

Apple iPhone Accessories

The iPhone has yet to be launched and yet, several companies are already releasing or announcing their accessories that will be compatible with the iPhone. Altec Lansing announced that they will release a new Upgrader Series Headphones that will be compatible with the iPhone. This headphone will be available in August 2007.

Another company joining the iPhone hype is InFlightPower.com which announced that the InFlight Power iPhone recharging cable is already available on their website. The InFlight Power recharging cable only weighs around 3 oz and works by storing the energy from the passenger seat music jack and then outputs the regulated power to the attached USB charging cable/connector.

The Apple iPhone coming June 29th

The tech world is filled with the news about the upcoming release of the Apple iPhone. The buzz started after TV commercials announced that the Apple iPhone will be available on June 29.

In previous weeks, there was a an email purportedly from Apple saying that the release of the Apple iPhone will be delayed. Apple was quick to state that the email was a hoax.

The all-in-one cell phone, media player and internet surfing device will sell for $499 to $599, depending on whether the memory will be 4GB or 8GB, and will be exclusively distributed under AT&T wireless' division.

AT&T will have exclusive rights to sell the iPhone for two years. The TV ads showed off the phone's features like its large touchscreen display, its ability to play videos and music, and display photos.
