The only reason why some people hold out on buying their own customized PC is because they don't want the headache of having to fix their PCs themselves as compared with a branded PC which has a warranty and tech support. But I really think that people shouldn't hold out just because of this reason alone. The money they could save plus the specs they could get for a similarly priced custom built PC spells a huge difference. Besides, if worse comes to worse, there are a hundred of free online tech support as well as computer repair service on the internet.
It could be a learning experience for them. I for one don't know squat about motherboards, RAMS, etc, five years ago but because I kept my mind and options open, I can say that buying custom built PCs made me more tech savvy.
