PS3 to get a firmware update

Now I really wish I'll be able to find a PS3 with PS2 backwards compatibility. Sony has announced that the PS3 will get a new System Software update in late March. The new firmware update will add Blu-ray (BD) 2.0 or BD-Live on your PS3 so you can gain access to exclusive Blu-ray content such as downloadable video, games, music, etc.

The new system software update (v. 2.2) enhances interactivity with the PSP so users can transfer files more easily between the two devices. Other features that will be available on your PS3 once you've installed the system software update includes:

  • Resume Play function even when you have taken out the BD disc (BD-J format discs not supported)
  • Remote Play Setting which enables the PSP to serve as a remote control for music played on your PS3
  • Enhanced Internet browser
  • DivX and WMV videos larger than 2GB will be playable
  • Mosquito noise reduction
