Sony unveiled last Tuesday the company's next generation DVD/CD dual format recordable drives. Sony's new recordable drives come in three models: DRU-840A, DRX-840U, DRX-S70U, all with different designs. Sony claims that their new dvd drives delivers the industry's fastest recording speeds.
All three of Sony's new line of multi-format DVD recordable drives supports 20x DVD+R and DVD-R recording speeds which means a full 4.7 GB of DVD disc can be recorded with video, data, music or images in five minutes on a 16x DVD+R media. Sony's multi-format drives also supports recording on 8.5 GB DVD+R double/dual layer and 4.7GB DVD+RW discs at 12x speed.
The DRU-840A is an internal DVD drive that has an ATAPI interface so that it can be easily installed inside a CPU and can be replaced with a black bezel to match black colored CPUs. The DRU-840A supports 20x DVD±R, 12x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, and 12x DVD-RAM, 48x CD-R and 32x CD-RW recording speeds and supports dual and double layer formats.
